Pet Portrait
PROCESS AND MATERIALS

Colored Pencil

I use professional oil-based lightfast colored pencils and watercolors which create fine details and rich layers of color. My drawings are done on high-quality archival papers. When completed the drawing is also sealed.

When framed the artwork will last a lifetime.

My drawings are done using reference photos. You will pick or take a photo and email it to me.

See the Choosing a Reference Photo section for tips.

CHOOSING A REFERENCE PHOTO

If you have a favorite photo of your furry friend or plan to take one, the best photos are clear, well lit with good detail, especially in the eyes, the nose and whiskers. If you are taking photos natural light is best. Find a place that is shaded so that there aren't harsh shadows or washed out highlights. The more details the better. I really love working with photos that show your pet's personality. If you have a photo that you love but it's not quite sharp enough or too dark we may be able to work with it. I've included some examples below.

Don't hesitate to contact me with questions.

Commission Info: Project

There are a couple of problems with this photo. First, you can't see the cats eyes. Secondly, the lighting isn't great. I could correct the lighting here but not the eyes.

Cuddling Cats
20180902_114213-01.jpeg

This photo is too dark and blurry with no details. We can't use this one.

This is a super cute photo with lots of character. The only issue here is the eyes. I can work with it but if you could also send me a photo where your pets eyes are clear and sharp I can work with both photos.

Playful Puppy
Cat Close Up

This is a beautiful photo with nice, clear, sharp eyes. The fur on the body is out of focus so if you happen to have another photo that shows your pet's fur from the front, I can reference both photos.

If you do have a photo you like but feel it's too dark, we can try to work with it.

Cute Happy Dog

I love this! By all means, if your pet is a big goof and that it what you'd like to portray than I'd love the challenge.
